Adrian Sommerauer graduated with a German Diplom in Fashion-, Textile-, Costume- Design from the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences and continued his studies in London at the Royal College of Art with an MA specializing in Fashion Menswear.
During his education he worked on projects with companies such as Levi’s, Umbro, United Arrows, Bower Roebuck and IFF and gained work experience at Gabriele Blachnik, Sibilla Pavenstedt and Alexander Mc Queen. For his Master studies he received fulltime scholarships by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and Wilhelm-Lorch-Stiftung. His graduation collections have been displayed in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Hamburg Museum of Arts and Crafts.
He has been a finalist of many international fashion competitions such as ITS#5 2006 and ITS#7 2008, Bruxelles »Fashion-Weekend« competition March 2009 and won several awards including the 21. »Concours International des Jeunes Créateures de Mode« in Paris 2004, »Karriere Young Fashion Award« 2005 launched by IGEDO, »Baltic Fashion Award« 2008 and »FASH 2009, New Diversity« launched by SDBI.
His work has been presented in London, Moskow, Paris, Amsterdam, Bruxelles, Trieste, Berlin, Duesseldorf, Munich and Hamburg.
An intense research into fabrics, their treatment, manipulation and finish is characteristic of and integral to his design process. With his choice of material and fabrication he pushes the boundaries of menswear in a highly creative and equally desirable way, always respecting inherited rules yet interpreting them with a contemporary twist.
